The first time you slip out of your (Energy Bodies And Chakras)

The first time you slip out of your body, you notice it. A faint, silvery luminescence clinging to the shape of your sleeping form, a ghostly afterimage of the flesh you just vacated. You might mistake it for a trick of the light, a residual dream-image. But it is not. It is your energy body, the subtle vessel of your consciousness, and it is the only thing standing between you and the absolute, crushing dark of the astral plane. You will come to learn, in time, that this light is not a shield. It is a beacon. And in the deep, silent places between worlds, there are things that watch for beacons.

We are taught to think of the chakras as swirls of benevolent color, spinning wheels of life force that can be balanced, cleansed, and aligned for spiritual wellness. We read about the grounding red of the root, the soothing green of the heart, the illuminating violet of the crown. We are told they are the keys to unlocking higher consciousness, the map to a more vibrant, connected life. This is a comforting lie, a pretty veneer painted over a pulsating, organic machinery that is far more alien and terrifying than any New Age manual suggests. To truly understand what happens when you project, you must abandon these sanitized concepts. You must look at your energy body not as a rainbow, but as a wound that has been left open to the elements.

The Anatomy of a Ghost

Before you ever leave your physical form, you must understand what you are taking with you. The energy body is not a single entity; it is a complex, multi-layered system of intersecting fields, often described as the etheric, astral, and mental bodies. These are not neat, discrete layers like an onion. They are more like a turbulent, interpenetrating series of currents, flowing through and around you, held in tenuous cohesion by your will and your connection to your physical anchor.

The chakras are the vortices where these currents converge, the pressure points of your subtle anatomy. There are seven primary ones, aligned along the central column of your spine. But do not imagine them as gentle flowers. Imagine them as mouths. Seven primary mouths, sucking in the raw, chaotic energy of the cosmos and your environment, and expelling the processed waste of your own consciousness. In the waking world, these mouths are mostly closed, their intake filtered by the dense physical body. But in the astral, the filter is gone. The mouths are wide open, and they are hungry.

When you project, you are essentially peeling away the protective skin of the physical world. You are stepping out of the womb and into the void. Your energy body is no longer shielded by the mundane frequencies of your bedroom, the hum of the refrigerator, the weight of your blanket. It is exposed. And the chakras, those gaping mouths, begin to feed on whatever is available. This is the first, most fundamental horror of the astral: you are not a passive observer. You are a walking buffet.

The Root of All Fear

The Muladhara, the root chakra, is located at the base of the spine. In life, it is your connection to the earth, your grounding, your primal survival instinct. In the astral, it becomes your tether to the physical body. It is a thick, cord of pulsating red light, and you can feel it as an almost physical weight, a gravitational pull back to the sleeping flesh on your bed.

But in the lower astral planes, the root chakra is a liability. It resonates with the frequency of fear, of base instinct, of the herd. And it attracts things that resonate on that same frequency. You will see them in the periphery of your vision, shapeless, writhing masses of shadow that skitter just beyond your focus. They are drawn to the deep, red thrum of your root, to the primal terror that you cannot help but feel when you realize you are unmoored. They are not demons in the biblical sense; they are more like psychic parasites, attracted to the scent of raw, mortal dread. They will try to latch onto the cord, to feed on the connection to your body. You will feel a cold, gripping sensation at the base of your spine, a feeling of being slowly, inexorably dragged down. This is not a metaphor. It is a physical sensation in your astral body, and it is the first true test of your will.

The Hollow of the Heart

The Anahata, the heart chakra, is the seat of love, compassion, and connection. It is the most complex and dangerous of the vortices. In the astral, it does not simply radiate love; it radiates you. It is the core of your emotional identity, the sum of your attachments, your passions, your deepest desires. And this is what the entities of the astral crave more than anything.

They are not interested in your fear; that is merely an appetizer. They are interested in the rich, complex, emotionally charged energy that you generate in your heart. They will use every trick in their considerable arsenal to get you to open it. They will appear as loved ones, as spirit guides, as benevolent beings of light. They will offer you comfort, wisdom, and a sense of profound peace. And the moment you accept their offer, the moment you feel a swelling of love or trust in your chest, you have opened the door. The heart chakra, when forced open by an external entity, does not feel like a warm embrace. It feels like a cold, hollow cavern opening in your chest. You will feel a profound sense of emptiness, as if your very soul is being siphoned out through a straw. You will feel a disconnect from your own emotions, a terrifying apathy, as the invader feeds on the very essence of your being. This is not a spiritual attack; it is a predation. And the most terrifying part is that you will often be complicit in it, so desperate for connection in the desolate astral landscape that you will offer your own heart to the first thing that whispers a kind word.

The Throat of the Damned

The Vishuddha, the throat chakra, governs communication, expression, and truth. In the astral, this becomes your voice, your ability to command the reality around you. A well-developed throat chakra is a weapon, a tool to banish entities and shape the malleable astral environment. But a weak, unbalanced throat chakra is a death sentence.

You will encounter places of profound silence in the astral, zones where sound is swallowed whole. You will try to speak, to call for help, to recite a protective mantra, and only a dry, voiceless rasp will escape your lips. Your words will die in the vacuum, and you will feel the pressure of unseen things pressing in on you, savoring your mute panic. They will try to force your throat closed, to stifle your will. You will feel a constriction, a choking sensation, as if an invisible hand is wrapped around your astral neck. This is the silencing of the self. If you cannot find your voice, if you cannot project your will, you will be trapped in these silent pockets, drifting until your energy is depleted, until you are nothing more than a faint, forgotten echo. The horror is not the pain, but the absolute, utter isolation of being voiceless in an infinite, hostile expanse.

The Third Eye and the False Visions

The Ajna, the third eye chakra, is the seat of intuition, clairvoyance, and psychic sight. It is the lens through which you perceive the astral plane. It is also the most easily deceived of all the chakras. The astral is a realm of lies, a place where the very fabric of reality is subjective and mutable. Your third eye, if not trained and disciplined, will show you exactly what you expect to see, and more importantly, what the entities around you want you to see.

You will see glorious temples, beautiful landscapes, wise sages who offer you profound truths. You will be shown visions of your past lives, of your future, of the secrets of the universe. And it will all be a fabrication, a projection designed to distract you, to keep you occupied while something else feeds on your energy. The most insidious visions are those that are almost true. You will see your own home, your own family, but there will be subtle distortions—a clock running backwards, a shadow in the corner that shouldn’t be there, a loved one with eyes that are a shade too dark. These are the cracks in the illusion, the moments where the deception breaks down. If you ignore them, if you allow yourself to be lulled by the comfort of the familiar, you will sink deeper into the hallucination, losing your grip on your true location in the astral. You will become lost in a dream within a dream, and the thing that crafted the vision will be waiting for you when you finally wake up.

The Crown of Thorns

The Sahasrara, the crown chakra, is the ultimate goal of many spiritual practitioners. It is the connection to the divine, the gateway to higher consciousness, the state of pure, blissful awareness. In the astral, it is the most dangerous place of all. To open the crown chakra is to invite the entire astral plane into your being. It is to surrender your individual will to the vast, impersonal currents of the cosmos.

And the cosmos is not kind. The energy that floods in through an open crown chakra is not the gentle, white light of divine love. It is a raw, chaotic, overwhelming torrent of pure information and primal power. It is a deafening cacophony of every thought, every emotion, every fear, and every desire that has ever existed. It is the sound of the universe screaming. You will feel your consciousness being stretched, pulled apart, dissolved into the maelstrom. You will lose all sense of self, all sense of identity. You will forget your name, your face, your life. You will become a part of the static. Some call this enlightenment; they are fools. It is annihilation. It is the ultimate, final horror of the astral: the complete and utter erasure of the individual. You will beg for the simple, grounding fear of the root chakra, for the hollow ache of the heart, for anything that feels like you again. But it will be too late. The mouth at the top of your head is the largest of them all, and once it is open, it does not close easily.

The Long Way Back

Returning to the physical body is never a simple matter of willing it so. It is a desperate, frantic struggle against the currents that now hold you. The silver cord that connects you to your body is your lifeline, but it is also a tether that can be manipulated. Entities can pull on it, twist it, try to sever it. They can create false versions of it, leading you to a phantom version of your bedroom, a trap from which there is no escape.

You must fight your way back, chakra by chakra, using every ounce of will you possess. You must close the mouths, one by one, sealing yourself off from the astral energies. You must find your voice, your heart, your root, and use them to pull yourself back down the cord, through the layers of reality, back into the suffocating, comforting weight of your physical flesh. The return is not a gentle awakening. It is a violent crash, a sudden, jarring slam back into a body that feels alien and tight. You will wake up gasping, your heart pounding, your skin cold and slick with sweat. You will feel the phantom sensations of the astral for hours, perhaps days. The taste of the void will linger in your mouth. The silence will echo in your ears.

And you will lie there, in the dark, feeling the faint, throbbing pulse of your chakras as they slowly, reluctantly, begin to close their mouths. You will feel the energy body settling back into its cage. And you will know, with a certainty that chills you to the bone, that they are not closed all the way. They are always slightly ajar. And somewhere out there, in the deep, you can feel them. The things that saw your light. The things that tasted your fear. They are waiting. They know your signature now, the unique frequency of your energy body. And they are patient. They will be waiting for you, the next time you are foolish enough to step out of the light and into the dark.
